This week, we’re joined by Doug Teany, the chief operating officer at Corindus Vascular Robotics, a leader in robotic-assisted vascular interventions based in Waltham, Mass. Corindus was acquired in 2019 by Siemens for $1.1 billion. We talk to Doug about the state of robotic-assisted surgery, the challenges of developing such technology, and his company’s current roadmap. We also talk about the documentary The Speed of Thought and 5G hype versus reality, as well as how the core competencies of Siemens and Cordinus complement each other.
We also preview this week’s RoboBusiness Direct discussions that air October 1 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Rodney Brooks, co-founder of startup Robust AI, will examine the global megatrends that will pull on the next generation of robotics. Brooks has co-founded seven startups, including iRobot and Rethink Robotics, and now Robust AI. After Brooks’ keynote, we’ll hear from SICK’s Tyler Glieden who will discuss mobile robot navigation with 2D safety LiDAR.
Eugene and I also discuss the latest headlines, including Helen Greiner being named the CEO and Chairman of Tertill Corporation, a robotic gardening startup, a 60-foot Gundam robot, why we’re out on Amazon Ring’s indoor security drone, and the IFR’s 2020 world robotics report.
