Unitree announced on social media today that it is developing a humanoid robot, building on its experience in quadruped robotics. Unitree teased the H1 robot in the video above.
Unitree is one of the leading developers of quadrupeds and recently launched the second generation of its Go2 quadruped. The company has developed and commercialized the necessary leg mechanics and drive systems with its quadruped product line, potentially giving it a leg up on its humanoid competitors. The company has also developed and field-tested the necessary perception and locomotion algorithms that enable a fast development path from quadrupeds to bipeds.
The H1 humanoid stands about 71 inches (1800mm) tall and weighs about 100 lbs (47kg). The robot features a high-torque joint motor and gear train developed internally at Unitree. For perception, the robot includes a 3D LiDAR sensor and a depth camera. The leg joints are 5 degrees of freedom (DOF) and the arms are 4 DOF. The initial images of the robot do not include any hands, only a cushioned nub at the end of the arm. The company is teasing that the hands are in development.

No date for an official release was announced yet. However, the video claims the robot will be commercially available in the next 3-10 years. According to Unitree, the price of the H1 is expected to be below $90,000.

- Weight: 47kg (103 lbs)
- Walking speed: 1500 mm/sec (3.4 mph)
With the humanoid announcement, Unitree joins a growing number of high-profile robotics companies in the race to develop a multi-purpose humanoid. We will be discussing the state of humanoids in the opening keynote panel of RoboBusiness 2023. The discussion will feature Geordie Rose, co-founder and CEO of Sanctuary, Jeff Cardenas, co-founder and CEO of Apptronik, and Jonathan Hurst, co-founder and chief robot officer of Agility Robotics. The panel will share firsthand insights into the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead and discuss the industries poised to be early adopters of these remarkable creations.

I want one! To mow my grass & wash my motorhome &
100 other things that are hard for me to do now I am 70.
!
Tom Greenwell says
I want one, too. My lawn is mowed by a lawn care service and I don’t own a motorhome. My wife passed last year,, so I no longer have her to team up with get things done around here. I’m 77 and grateful to still be as ambulatory as I am. But a humanoid robot would be all kinds of handy as I continue to age. So bring on the ‘bots!
Luie says
Tom you are cool my man! Betcha if we put together a go fund me or other fundraiser for you online….we could make that happen….I sure as heck would give and I’m pretty certain others will too……just tell it just like you did on a platform and it’ll happen!
I’d love to see it work to help you….thats. my catch:)
Bruce blocher says
Boy you got that right I need a robot to do a lot of stuff around my house that needs to be done and all I’m getting older now I bet they probably cost a million dollars though but that leaves me out and a lot of other people.
Daniel says
Be careful what you wish for.
Today it mows your lawn, tomorrow it takes your job!
Bolt an advanced AI computer to it and it will do anybodies job.Doctor, lawyer, accountant, fork lift operator, trucker, you name it!
5 years from now, we will be obsolete!
D-Slab says
Good. They would do our jobs better than us. Human error would be eliminated. Permanent vacations for all! Life would be a dream living in the golden age of abundance. I can’t wait!
William Monsta says
I like how you think Daniel.. In fact they are already taking strides in the employment market. AI is in the business to make humanity obsolete.. Humans are becoming more lazy at the helm of the future. GOD SAVE US.
Joel says
This can walk, who nows where. I think we are still at the very beginning of robotism.
Mark says
This is the future of manufacturing, as well as nursing home help that even China is making possible
Jacinta says
Looks amazing but having a human kicking a robot is not a good thing or look and encourages people to be abusive and show the worst of themselves. Please have people showing respect to these amazing inventions and setting a good example. Thank you.
Pk Lee says
They would make soldiers on the battle field safer
Could run into a burning building to save someone
Or used as security for elementary middle school
Children against school shooters
My goodness their usefulness is amazing
Mark Dunbar says
Thank god I will be long gone before these things will be an everyday, normal, ‘thing’.
If we’ve read it in a book ie,(1984); if we’ve seen any film ie, ( i robot), you can guarantee someone, somehere, will make it happen.
Then it gets into the wrong hands and it’s used for worse purposes.
When I was a kid doing computer studies at school, our class was told, ‘they will make work quicker; they don’t need a break,; what else?’ .
My reply was, “sir, if 1 computer( robot) can do 5 peoples work, then surely that will have an effect on redundancies in the future?’
It takes 1 person to input data into a computer, that can control many computers ; the same as it will only take 1 idiot with a different agenda to input their data into a computer, which in turn will control many computers , robots or whatever you want to call them.
I’m not stating science fiction here, just science fact.
Amd when you get computers, bots or whatever that can learn to communicate with each other in their own language that we as mere humans can’t decode, then what? Oh sorry, that has already happened.
Yes, we all get old, yes we all get to a point we can’t do stuff, yes we all die, its facts of human life.
And before anyone asks, I am not a techno phobe.
I’m a realist, so people out there, wake up to your kids and grandkids future and what it will look like.
Millions of bots to do all kinds of jobs, so we humans will do what?, laze around, stuff your faces, get fatter, less fitter, more bored, more angry, more resentful? Who will you have to blame for all of that?
Hugo Mansavage says
Why don’t you show your gadget actually doing something useful than just prancing about and getting kicked in the butt?
Robert Hart says
Has NOBODY seen the Terminator movies? Nobody? So…. yeah…. let’s combine this with an AI brain that one day decides we’re a threat to ourselves. Or them. Good plan!
Sahal says
I need a robot to make me stand and walk an quadaplegic
Saad Sammarraie says
We need John Connor to save us 😂
Philip Frazee says
Since the onset of radical changes in what was once considered a loving, supportive and committed heterosexual relationship…sexbots will ultimately fill the void.
No doubt the same will hold true with gay or lesbian partnerships.
Sperm and egg banks will then breath life into an ethical and pragmatic new version of eugenics.
This science will also usher in a new era, in which inherited diseases and fetal abnormalities will be eliminated, as will the attendant pain and suffering.
Egsnjamb says
So abusive advertisement, even a machine you have to treat it with respect, same like we take care of our devices like computers, smartphones, tablets etc. One day robots will be doing more things than us and we should respect what we have created for the good of humanity, stop kicking and showing unfeelings.
